The Elektroniese WAT

When the Elektroniese WAT was published on 28 March 2003, the Woordeboek van die Afrikaanse Taal (WAT) joined the leading dictionaries of the world like the Oxford English Dictionary and the Woordenboek der Nederlandsche Taal. The Elektroniese WAT is updated when a new printed volume is published. It is available as a CD and on the internet.
- The Elektroniese WAT includes the comprehensive information contained in 13 printed volumes of the WAT,
- represents the most comprehensive rendering of the Afrikaans vocabulary,
- includes about 200,000 entries (lemmata),
- is the equivalent of more than 8 300 printed pages,
- contains the different varieties of Afrikaans,
- includes vocabulary from written and spoken language,
- contains information extracted from a database of more than 20 million citations,
- includes Woordkeusegids --- 'n Kerntesourus van Afrikaans as a bonus. Woordkeusegids is included on this CD to help the user up to Z.
The following types of information can be found with a shortcut: the lemma, part of speech, labels and etymology.
Advanced searches can be done, e.g. for expressions and phrases.
